“Information overload!”  Haven’t we all been there!  Sure, I subscribe to this daily assault of paper and online journals, newsletters, magazines, email updates, social networking updates, etc.  And I have every intention of reading each one to stay on top of current issues and trends in my industry and my profession.  The reality is that most end up in the recycling bin (physical and electronic) without being read.  Perhaps that is why it took me so long to visit ARMA International’s blog, Information Overload.  What I really enjoy about this blog are the discoveries I’ve made to yet more blogs!  Here are a few of my new favorites, and yes, it was the names that grabbed my attention…

Bookish Disposition

“A librarian-turned-records-manager view from the stacks”.  I’ve never met Robin Riat but after reading her blog, I’m hoping our paths cross.  Check out her list of “25 Things about Records Management.”

Roger Matus’ Death by Email

This site comments on the social, political, legal, and business risks in electronic communications.  There’s a great 2007 clip called “Seriously Don’t Delete This,” from The Daily Show with John Stewart. Still funny…

Too Much Information

A blog by the 451 Group, covers a wide spectrum of information management topics, including enterprise search, content management, collaboration, text analysis, storage, archiving; and just about anything else that ‘pertains to the ongoing struggle by organizations and people to find, discover and use information effectively.’

AIIM Certificate Programs
I’ve been receiving many emails lately about AIIM’s new and improved Content Management Certificate Program and Records Management Certificate Program.  I’m curious as to what our certified members think about the new programs.  If you are already certified as an ECM or ERM Specialist, Practitioner or Master, do you plan to recertify?

Records Management Society 2009 Conference
The Records Management Society (RMS) is the professional records association in the United Kingdom.  The RMS will be holding their 2009 annual conference in Brighton, England on April 19-21, 2009.  The conference will address the current challenges facing records and information management professionals.  ARMA International members are invited to register at the reduced RMS member registration fee.  Enter the word ARMA in place of a membership number on the registration form.

MER ’09
The 16th annual conference on managing electronic records will be held May 18-20 in Chicago, Illinois.  Presented by Cohasset Associates, MER is the event to attend for a focus on key issues, trends and solutions relating to electronic records management.

DIGITAL DIRECTIONS: Fundamentals of Creating and Managing Digital Collections

The North East Document Conservation Center Digital and the Balboa Art Conservation Center presents a three-day conference covering the essentials of digitization on May 27-29 in San Diego.  Participants will be introduced to the range of activities and issues associated with digitizing collection material.
